If you have a workflow with an "Internal Notification" action configured to send an email to an address configured in a contact custom field (see attachment), that email will actually be sent to the primary email address of the contact instead of the address in the custom field. This is resulting in emails being sent to the wrong recipients.
I had a long discussion about this with support team member Vidyut who was very helpful in testing and confirming this behavior and describing that this behavior is due to historical reasons. He suggested this would be good to fix as it opens up some capabilities and the best route to take would be to have it appear here so that it can be voted upon.
Fixing the above is a key requirement to implementing social messaging for environments not currently supported by GoHighLevel (such as Facebook personal Messenger, the recently removed X support, and others). We have created an app that adds these social capabilities to GHL and it currently supports receiving and sending these social messages from a contact. In order to send social messages from workflows to enable auto-responding, tagging, and keyword behaviors, we would require the issue described above to be resolved.
Fixing this issue would allow us to provide a solution to the 500+ GHL users who have expressed interest in the following feedback items related to social messaging:
