Auto-Assignment of created data to originator user

GHL setup allows users to only view data specifically assigned to them. However, I've noticed a problem when a user creates a new contact or opportunity. As soon as an opportunity is created, it becomes unassigned by default. This causes the newly created opportunity to disappear from the user creator's pipeline, despite them being the originator.

This definitely should be a feature! I have a workflow that auto assigns all new contacts to my salespeople, but if one of them manually enters a new contact in, it sometimes gets auto assigned to someone else.
