Currently ONLY the FIRST appointment for a recurring appointment can be sent - there is no current way, even via workflows to send notifications for all recurring appointments as there are no merge fields to get the recurring data. I can see these:

Recurring > Repeats: {{appointment.recurring.repeats}}

Recurring > Times to repeat: {{appointment.recurring.times_to_repeat}}

...but they do nothing!
