By allowing the default for Booking Status to be marked as "Unconfirmed" you can setup workflows to send "Hard" confirmation reminders before the appt is set - then once a "hard" confirmation is received, then we can mark the status as Confirmed. This would enable us to up our show rates because of hard confirmations -- technically you can change the booking status to "unconfirmed" manually when setting up the appt but this leaves it up to humans and there's a lot of human error.
