We have released a feature to add followers to contacts and opportunities who have the same access to the contacts/opportunities as the owner and they act as the second assigned user for the object. Hope this would be able to solve the requirement.

In the real estate space, it would be great to have this as you can assign a buyer to an opportunity. For example, you have an opportunity for a seller, and you find the perfect buyer for this opportunity. Instead of creating a new Buyer Opportunity, you just add the new buyer to the existing Seller Opportunity. This makes the process SO much smoother!
