When a document, attachment, image is sent or received in a contact's conversation it auto saves in the documents/file tab of the contact (or allowed to build a workflow for this). I have clients that send property information after a walk through that includes pictures and updated quotes and map visuals that would be beneficial to find quickly in the documents tab instead of scrolling through the conversations window for the specific image/attachment, etc.
