Warning message before creating duplicate opportunity

I have a client with duplicate opportunities enabled (for repeat customers). I would love a feature that warns the user when they're about to create a duplicate opportunity so that they can verify whether the duplicate is really necessary.
Along the same lines, I'd like for there to be a symbol or something on the opportunity card that indicates whether the contact has more than one opportunity.
