This update would let us adapt to each client’s unique selling process while helping our high-volume clients avoid costly sales mistakes. With required fields and more customization in the opportunity section, we could do away with the custom form that’s been causing headaches as we scale, making everything smoother and easier to use for everyone.

Yes, I completely agree with this. For me in particular, it would be at the point the user either creates a new opportunity manually. Or at the first save after an opportunity has been created by automation.
